Over the last few decades, there has been a rapid development in dental surgical techniques which are evolving towards a world of painless dentistry. Traditionally, the Osseous Surgery (a surgical procedure, which is done when you have a pocket around your tooth / teeth that have not responded to other treatments, such as Scaling and Root Planing) is performed using hand instruments and various other rotary instruments.
These instruments also produce heat and considerable amount of pressure during the surgery which increases the chance of fracture of bones. To overcome such limitations, a novel surgical technique was introduced for precise and selective cut on the bone, without injuring the surrounding tissues. This new alternative method, introduced in dentistry for bone related surgeries, was termed as Ultrasonic Bone Surgery.
Advantages of Ultrasonic Bone Surgery:
• It requires less cuts, so the pain is less.
• Less risk of damage to the adjacent oral soft tissues
• Minimal intra-operative bleeding
